POETRY
After leaving school at 15 a rebellious and angry young man, Steve Soden has now become deep-thinking,
spiritual and romantic. His poetry is written in an uneasy and cynical style reflected through personal
experience of Birth, Life and Death.
Steve has recently published a book of his poetry, To Hell and Back.
This is the first collection of poems by the Birmingham born poet, playwright and songwriter.
Another Day
Frustration, anger, masturbation,
Love, hate and harmony
Natural human feelings
Happiness, bitterness, truth,
Marriage, abortion and divorce
Living, giving, taking,
Dying to be free
After the holocaust,
Before the birth of Christ
Anxious, calm and ready
Making babies, shooting guns,
The Spider and the Snake
Whether you fear the spider or the snake
It makes no difference if you’re full of hate
Because the fear that you hate will only generate
Venomous thoughts which will make you contemplate
hideous Actions and words you’ll spit out and state
To someone who left you nothing on your plate
Except for the broken bones of a feeling you’ll never re-create
Stabbing knives, easy prey
Death defying acts of courage
Tenderness
Oh sweet romantic poets
Of a bye-gone age
Cold and lonely October birthdays
Scorpio women, Piscean fishermen
Group sex with Gemini sisters
White lightning, tropical island blues
And the saxophone plays on
While the world sleeps and dreams of
